Baitings is a large water supply reservoir operated by Yorkshire Water close to Ripponden in the Yorkshire Pennines. It lies in the valley of the River Ryburn and is the higher of two reservoirs built to supply Wakefield with water and was completed in 1956. The lower reservoir is Ryburn reservoir.
On the agenda tonight was the large dam that supports the water levels from above, inside there is a network of tunnels which are very interesting and quite a mooch to see them all as it involves a lot of climbing upto different levels inside the dam.
Inside there are a number of large pipes carrying water to various places within the reservoir complex, also there are a number of large valves situated lower down in the bowels of the dam.
After a fair bit of climbing down we arrived at these large steps, which go down even further to the long tunnel at the bottom of the dam wall.
Once we reached the bottom you can either go left or right up the tunnel to either end of the dam. At each end there are more ladders going upto the various levels and tunnels, these tunnels can also be reached from other areas within the dam.

After quite a bit of climbing and navigating through more tunnels we were near the top of the dam.
Stepping Lightly pointed out this rather curious object, I think he visits here once a week to give it a quick polish looking at it's condition ;)
You can see him hiding in the shadows watching over it..
